Martha Ann Hickey Smail, 86, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, died January 29, 2015, at Maury Regional Hospital, Columbia, TN. She moved to Spring Hill in 2007 and spent the past six years at Life Care of Columbia. Martha was a member of First United Methodist Church, Columbia, TN. Born August 4, 1928 in Norwood, Ohio, she was the wife of the late Donald Elwin Smail, and daughter of the late James Chesleigh Hickey and Marian "Elizabeth" Eslinger. Martha grew up in Knoxville, and Memphis, TN, and after graduating from high school and business college, married and lived in Honolulu, Hawaii and Memphis. She was an Administrative Assistant for St. Luke''s United Methodist Church in Memphis. Martha is survived by one son, Glen E. Smail (Kristy), granddaughter, Grace Vandeventer, grandson, Ian A. Smail, and step-grandson, Sean M. Comerford, sister in law, Juanita Hickey, and cousin, Ruth Icamen along with many nieces and nephews, cousins and special friends. Visitation will be 12 p.m. until service begins at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 5 at St. Luke''s United Methodist Church with interment following at Memory Hill Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke''s United Methodist Church. Special thanks to all the employees of Life Care who took such good care of Martha over the years.
