Martha Leech McDonald, 90, passed away on May 10 at her home, Silver Creek Assisted
Living, in Olive Branch. The daughter of Charles Murray and Vannie Leech, Mrs. McDonald
was born and raised in Memphis and was a 1945 graduate of Whitehaven High School. She
enjoyed the outdoors, including, as a young woman, golf, archery and fishing, and she always
loved animals. Mrs. McDonald was a Methodist and was longactive in the Eastern Star. She
was the manager of the receiving department at WalMart in Holly Springs for fifteen years and
served as director of the Civil Defense of Marshall County, MS. Known for her wit and sense of
humor, Mrs. McDonald made friends easily, and many of the staff and nurses at Silver Creek
became treasured friends of hers.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Walter H. McDonald, Sr. and is
survived by her three children, Ann Meeks of Olive Branch, Walter H. McDonald, Jr. of Laws
Hill, MS, and Charles McDonald, also of Olive Branch; six grandchildren and eighteen great
grandchildren; as well as her sister, Mrs. Sarah (E.R.) James of Mountain View, Ark., and three
nieces.
Visitation will take place at 9:30, Monday, May 14, at Forest Hill Funeral Home South, 2545
East Holmes Road; a funeral service will follow at 10. The family requests that, in lieu of
flowers, memorial donations be made to Olive Branch Animal Shelter, 10470 Highway 178,
Olive Branch, MS 38654, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
