Martha Jean
Mcclung
Jul 26, 1940 — Aug 9, 2021
Martha Jean McClung, age 81, of Memphis, TN, passed away in the early morning hours of
August 9, 2021 at Germantown, Methodist Hospital. She passed peacefully, with loved ones by
her side.
Martha was born on July 26th, 1940, to David and Genevieve Mitchell, of Memphis, TN. The
family relocated to West Virginia where she was raised, along with her sisters, Margaret
Mitchell (Arnold) and Susie Mitchell (Dwyer). At age 12, Martha met the love of her life, and
went on to marry Thomas E. McClung on June 30, 1956. Together, they raised 5 beautiful
children, Steven McClung, David McClung, Tammy McClung (Peck), Teresa McClung (Kalb), and
Amy McClung (Ludwig).
Martha was a devoted Jehovah's Witness, and cherished the lifelong community this provided.
Besides spending time with friends and family, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, and
homemaking. Her favorite pastime was that of listening to her husband play the piano, which
always left a smile on her face. Her affinity for animals led to her opening her own grooming
business, which she ran from the basement of her home. She held many positions throughout
her life, but being a wife and mother was always her greatest passion. Martha was blessed with
a very large family and will continue to be loved by so many.
Martha was preceded in death by; her father, David Clyde Mitchell; her mother, Genevieve
Rosenthal; her sister, Susie Dwyer; and 3 of her children, David McClung, Teresa Kalb, and
Steven McClung.
Martha is survived by her loving husband; Thomas McClung; her sister, Margaret Arnold (Mike);
and her two daughters, Tammy Peck (Sonny) and Amy Ludwig (Michael). She is also survived by
13 grandchildren and their spouses, (Whitnee, Ashley, Brandon, Abby, Aubrey, Murri, Murray,
Morgan, Josh, Thomas (Scooter), Chelsea, Madelyn, and Aidan). In addition to her
grandchildren, she is also survived by 12 great grandchildren.
