In Remembrance of Martha Virginia Yarwood

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Martha Virginia Grantham Yarwood, who departed this life on December 25, 2025 at the age of 99. Virginia was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and cherished member of the community.

A Life Well Lived

Òn October 19, 1926 a baby girl was born in Yorkville, TN to Pearl and James Allen Grantham. They named her Martha Virginia. She had an older brother, Robert and a baby sister, Mackie who passed away when Virginia was nine years old.

In the mid-30s, they relocated to Memphis. Virginia attended Humes High School where she learned accounting and bookkeeping. After graduating she was hired at one of the only two banks in Memphis. She was very proud of her job and for years she could still write shorthand. It was in high school where she met a friend of her brother's, the love of her life, her husband Charles T. Yarwood, Sr.

A Loving Family

Virginia leaves behind her loving family; including son Charles Yarwood, Jr. (Teresa), daughter Susan Yarwood Mitchell, granddaughter Kelly Yarwood-Gustafson (Chase), grandson Kevin Mitchell, nephew Steve Adams (Edie and their son Kace), nephew Allen Grantham (Leslie), grandnephews Sam and James Grantham, grandnieces Elise and Elizabeth Wenzel; who will forever cherish the memories made together. She is proceeded in death in 2015 by her husband, Charles T. Yarwood, Sr.

Celebration of Life

A memorial service will be held on January 8 in The Chapel at Bartlett United Methodist Church; visitation at noon, service at 1 p.m. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of Virginia's life.
