Mary Jane "Dolly" Grimes (1944-2026)

Mary Jane Grimes, beloved grandmother, mother, wife and friend passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, at the age of 81. She was known to many as Dolly but known to family as "G.G.". Dolly, the second eldest of four, was born on July 11, 1944, to the late Harvey and Rachel Pruitt, in Jasper, Alabama.

She was a graduate of Humes High School and married her husband Richard Grimes in 2004. Dolly worked at National Mortgage as a loan processor and later worked for Union Planters (Regions) as an auditor and quality control agent. She was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church.

Dolly was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Rachel Pruitt; brother, Charles Pruitt; sister, Sarah Frank; niece, Beth Pruitt; and brother-in-law Jimmy Smith.

She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Grimes; sons, Michael Laxton (Marcy), Damon Laxton, and Donald Grimes (Gail); grandchildren, Stormy Cox (Dallas), Rachel  Vaden (Ryan), Cooper Laxton, Britany Keys (Jimmy), Kelsi Grimes; and great-grandchildren Shepherd Cox, Banks Vaden, Alyssa, Kaley and Lucas Keys, Jaxon West, Raelynn Brownlee; nieces and nephews Kevin Pruitt (Cathie), Steven Frank (Penny), Alana Frank, Jennifer Attaway (Robert) and Vince Smith. She also leaves behind several great nieces and nephews.

Her strength and grace will continue to inspire us. She is deeply missed and cherished.

Visitation will be at Forest Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park East, 2440 Whitten Road Memphis TN 38133, from 9am-10am Saturday, January 31, 2026, with the Memorial Service to follow at 10:00am.
