Mary Sue (Douglas) Ozment, 91, of Oakland, Tn., was surrounded by family on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Methodist Germantown Hospital where she passed away peacefully after a short illness. She was born on March 12, 1925, in Pontotoc, Ms. to Noah Ruby and Lela Mae (Self) Douglas. She was the oldest of four children. An hereditary condition left her deaf when she was a teenager which caused her to drop out of school before starting the ninth grade. At 18, after knowing James Milton Ozment for only three weeks, she married him on September 7, 1943 in Corinth, Ms. and in the following years gave birth to their four children. Mary Sue''s special interests and hobbies included raising a family and caring for God''s creation through gardening. She had a green thumb and loved flowers of all kinds. She was a wonderful cook and delighted family and friends with her ability to turn a few simple ingredients into a feast. Mary Sue was also a very gifted seamstress who made countless beautiful quilts for family and friends. One of her greatest joys was to see the creations of her skill and imagination. She had a beautiful smile, twinkling eyes, and a sort of sweet nature that made people fall in love with her almost immediately. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, sister, Lucille Hughes, brother, Vernon Reed Douglas, husband, and son, James Lanny Ozment. She is survived by her three daughters, Mrs. Patricia Sue Eccles (Patrick) of Tucson, Az., Ms. Debra Jean Woodruff of Oakland Tn., and Ms. Beverly Gaye Whitehead of Senatobia, Ms., a brother, John Thomas Douglas (Joyce) of Hernando, Ms., eleven grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Tuesday at Forest Hill Funeral Home South with services and burial at 2:00 pm Wednesday at the same location. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mary Sue''s name to St. Jude Children''s Hospital. She will be missed.
