Obituary

Mary Adrian Pomeroy Lancaster of Memphis, Tennessee, entered heaven on September 14, 2020. Better known as Granny, she was born January 2, 1925, in Memphis, Tennessee. She is preceded in death by her husband, Homer Lancaster, whom she married in 1952. Her parents were Thomas A. Pomeroy, Sr., and Mary Katherine Thomas Pomeroy.  She had one beloved brother, Thomas A. Pomeroy, Jr . She is survived by her two sons, Homer A. Lancaster (Dana) of Olive Branch, Mississippi, and Thomas Lee Lancaster (Tami) of Bartlett, Tennessee. She loved her 5 grandchildren dearly: Tyler Lancaster (Kelley), Kendall Lancaster (Daniel), Cody Lancaster, Jill Branner (Chris), and Scott Lancaster (Kristi). She has two great grandsons T.J. and Barnabas. She was employed as a radiation therapist at the VA Hospital for more than 30 years. She enjoyed caring for many patients there, especially around every holiday when she would wear festive outfits and jewelry to cheer each patient. Woodland Presbyterian Church was her church home for more than 50 years.  Every morning without fail she could be found with her Bible and devotion book open.  She was a faithful member and served her Lord and Savior there by always being a welcoming smile for new members and dear friends, folding the church newsletter, and helping with vacation Bible school. She was part of the Senior Adult Outreach Choir that visited many area nursing homes and assisted living facilities to bring smiles to the residents' faces. After the passing of her beloved husband, she enjoyed spending time with and traveling the world with her close knit group of friends. Her most valued possession of her earthly home was her family that she never missed an opportunity to be with. She was "Granny" to all who knew her, and her legacy will live on because she selflessly loved and generously gave herself to others.  She loved her family with all her heart, and she will be missed for her gentle and kind spirit. Her celebration of life will be Friday with the family receiving friends at 1:00 p.m. with service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Hill Midtown with graveside service to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to American Heart Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
