Obituary

Mary Evelyn Lowrey Stamps, 74, died peacefully in her sleep Friday, June 29th, 2018 at her home in Memphis, Tennessee after a brave battle with Crohn's disease. Mary was born March, 22nd, 1944 in Memphis to Iry E. Lowrey, Sr. and Naomi Moore Lowrey. She was preceded in death by her parents and her eldest brother Iry E Lowrey, Jr. Mary is survived by her brother G. Wayne Lowrey (Debbie), nephews Joe Lowrey, Charles Lowrey (Carrie), Lewis Lowrey, Allen Lowrey (Onika), nieces Catherine Weingarten (Joe), Kellie Lowrey and Stacey Berry (Rik), great nephews Zach (Keegan) and Eli Berry (Kelsey), and great-great nephew Abraham Mosely Berry. Mary graduated from Central High School and attended LSU for one semester before returning to Memphis after becoming homesick to begin a successful career. She retired from Archer Daniels Midland.

A collector of shoes and watches, she could never pass up a good bargain. Her friendships were life-long from childhood until her death and her loyalty was steadfast to everyone despite her health challenges. Mary's charitable heart and unconditional love was displayed in her dedication by single-handedly caring for her mother and later her father until their final days. She gave to those she loved without expectations. Mary loved her West Highland Terrier, Nicky like a child. Her kindness had no boundaries. Mary's biggest love was for her family and watching her great nephews grow and celebrating their successes brought her the most joy.

Her family paid this tribute to her: Mary was one of the most intelligent, kind and loving people you could have known. Her infectious smile, loving laugh, and encouraging words were always abundant. Despite her debilitating illness, she never felt compelled to complain or burden anyone. Many who knew her weren't even aware of her illness. Words cannot express how much she will be missed.
