Mary Waldrip Thompson, 99, died April 7 at Rainbow Nursing Center in Cordova. Born August 6, 1912, in Lafayette Springs, MS, she was the last survivor of 13 children. A devout believer of the Old Baptist faith, she was a member of Olive Branch Primitive Baptist Church. She lived most of her life in Memphis, but she had also lived in Tupelo and Hernando, MS. She was a retired credit clerk with JC Penney Co. She was preceded in death by parents, Columbus Levi Waldrip and Martha Samantha Smith Waldrip, husband, Harbert Thompson, and son, Harold Thompson. She leaves daughter, Karen (Bob) Dickey of Cordova; and son, Mike (Nina) Thompson of Jonesboro, AR; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Thompson will be remembered for her cooking and gardening skills, her storytelling, and for her faith in God. Visitation will be noon-2 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, at Forest Hill Midtown Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow, and subsequent burial will be at Forest Hill Midtown Cemetery.
