Mary Warren Hampton, a long-time resident of Memphis, died September 23, 2016 at home. Mary was born October of 1924 in Alderson, West Virginia, she was the youngest of five children of Everett H. and Grace Shields Warren. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Sara, Everett, John, and Ralph.

In 1943, she married Leonard Earl Hampton in Oklahoma where he was stationed in the Navy. Their lives and an engineering career for her husband took them to Danville, Virginia, Newport News, Virginia, and Humboldt, Tennessee, eventually landing in Memphis where he worked at an engineering firm specializing in road construction, and Mary as a homemaker. In 1963, a construction accident claimed Leonard Hampton''s life.

They had four children, JoAnn Hampton Bowman, Jerry Hampton Guy, Dr. Joyce Hampton Swan (Ken) and Dr. Leonard E. Hampton II (Diane). Upon losing her husband, Mary cared for her young children raising them to love family and respect education, making sure that her children attended college and even attained advanced degrees. Mary also loved gardening, cooking and was an avid reader. She had a warm smile, a sharp wit and ready sense of humor. She was a life-long Methodist and most recently was a member of Longstreet United Methodist Church.

In addition to her beloved children, she deeply loved four grandchildren: Pam Hudgens Williams (Lance), Cindy Hudgens, Halle Hampton Reynolds (Ricky) and Will Hampton; one great-granddaughter Quinn Reynolds, and a host of nieces and nephews all of whom brought great joy to her. Visitation will be Monday, September 26th from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm at Wilson Chapel in Christ United Methodist Church, 4488 Poplar Avenue, Memphis. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, September 27th at the chapel of Forest Hill Cemetery South, 2545 E. Holmes Rd, Memphis. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude Children''s Research Hospital, Troop 241 of Boy Scouts at Christ United Methodist Church, or the donor''s choice.
