Mary Bernadette "Bernie" Hawkins (Wegemer) died of natural causes on October 19, 2015. Bernie leaves behind her beloved husband of 48 years, William Larry Hawkins of Memphis, TN; three children Sherry Hawkins, Steven Hawkins, and Stacia Weir, all of Memphis, TN; and her grandson Keller Grey Hawkins of Memphis, TN. In addition, she leaves behind her sisters, Chris McLane (Pat) of Mechanicsburg, PA; Charlotte Corish (Jimmy) of Hershey, PA; Kim Sullivan (Jim) of Hummelstown, PA; and brother-in-law John Knepley of Boalsburg, PA; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Ruth Wegemer and by her sister Barbara Knepley.

Bernie was born in Kane, PA May 30, 1944 to Charles and Ruth Wegemer. She attended Central Catholic High School in St Marys, PA, Notre Dame of Maryland University, and received her MBA in Finance at the University of Memphis. Bernie worked for Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare for 23 years, serving in various positions including Director of Finance and Interim CFO at Germantown Methodist LeBonheur Hospital before her retirement.

Bernie was a selfless person, who would do anything for her family and friends. She was an avid bridge player in Memphis for over 40 years, and enjoyed traveling, reading, and collecting antiques. She was also actively involved with her church, Resurrection Catholic Church.

The Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 22 at Forest Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park at 2440 Whitten Road, 38133. A mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 23 at Resurrection Catholic Church, 5475 Newberry Ave, Memphis, TN 38115, with interment to follow at Forest Hill Funeral Home. The family requests that any memorials be made to Resurrection Catholic Church.
