Mellie Louise Vogt Jackson

September 26, 1947 - April 30, 2024

Mellie was raised by two loving parents in Memphis, TN, where she was born. Her father was a Memphis fire fighter for 32 years, till his retirement as captain. He also was in the 82nd Airborne during WWII. Her mother stayed at home to raise their children.

Mellie graduated from Overton High School in 1966. She worked at Morrison's cafeteria through her senior year and shortly beyond. In October of 1962 via a phone call, she talked to a guy named Fred Jackson, and they met on a blind date that Friday. During their phone call they were astonished to learn they shared the same birth date of September 26. Hers in 1947 and his in1944, they were 18 and 15. After a 4 year long distance romance while Fred was serving in the United States Air Force. They got married Feb 3, 1967, in a lovely in home wedding given by Freds Aunt Beck, Unlce Bill, and Aunt Melba. Having been married more than 57 years they are proof there is such thing as "Love at first sight". Other than Fred and Mellie raising their son Robert, her greatest joy was the time she served in MDO, and the nursey at TBC. She dearly loved all the children she was involved with.

Mellie was preceded in death by their son, Robert Carlton Jackson on August 27, 2018. Her father Robert Vogt, her mother, Mary L Vogt, and her two brothers Robert M. Vogt and Ellis D. Vogt.

Mellie is survived by her husband Fred C. Jackson, Jr;  her sister, Bert Woodruff, of Dresdon, TN.; her sister in law; Rebekah McDermont, of Grand Junction, CO.; her niece, Beth Mathis, of Grand Junction, CO,; her niece Wedy Shoemaker, of Sharon, TN,; her nephew, Kenny Vogt, of Williston, TN.; and Kimberley Yarbro, of Whiteville, TN.
