Michael Neal Amsden was born in Hettinger, North Dakota, in 1953 to Dean and Maxine Amsden. He moved to Memphis, TN and in 1971 met Louisa May Spears and were married in 1973. In 1975 they were blessed with their first child, William Lyman Amsden (d. 1989) and from 1978 to 1988 with five more children. Eliza Williamson resides in Memphis with husband Greg: they have one child Samantha whom resides in Minnesota. Margaret O'Rourke resides in North Carolina with husband CPO Josh O'Rourke (USCG) and three children: Liam, Finnegan, and Adelyn. Carey Alverson resides in Memphis with daughter Mara. Abigail Martin resides in Memphis with children Natalie and Isaac. Maxwell also lives in Memphis.
He is preceded in death by his son William, father Dean, sister Sandra Traywick, Father in-law Carey Spears, and Mother in-law Virginia Spears.
He worked at what became Quebecor Printing for 35 years, eventually becoming foreman, until the plant was closed in 2008.
Along with Louisa; Michael was a lifelong member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and very prominent through all the years. Michael assumed the role of groundskeeper upon his Father In-Law, Carey Spears, passing in 2001. Michael
became Vicar at Our Savior and led services for over 16 years.
In early 2020, Michael suffered a stroke that left him unable to continue leading services. On Wednesday December second Michael Amsden passed away from esophageal cancer.
