Michael Langley Gafford, born November 23, 1947, passed away on January 2, 2025, at his home in Cordova, Tennessee, surrounded by his loving family.

A proud graduate of Kingsbury High School's Class of 1965, Michael went on to serve his country with honor in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. Upon his return, he dedicated more than 50 years to a successful career in facilities maintenance, including work with the City of Memphis, Code Enforcement, and ultimately retiring from FedEx.

Michael was a lifetime member of the Masons, holding membership with Normal Lodge 722 for which he served as Master in 1993, a position he held in great pride. Those who knew Mike will always remember him as a man of character and humor—someone whose warmth, loyalty, and strong opinions made him both unforgettable and beloved.

He had a passion for many things: wrestling, the history of World War II (with a special admiration for Audie Murphy), and anything related to cars. But above all, Michael cherished his family. He is survived by his wife, Susan Gafford; his daughters, April Hoffman (husband Cory) and Amy Balducci (husband Tim); and his beloved grandchildren, Hannah Andrews, Ellie Andrews, Jackson Stanley, and Jaden Stanley. He is also survived by his brother, Eric Gafford.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben and Hazel Gafford, and his brother, Steve Gafford.

A man who was larger than life, Michael's spirit and love for life will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. His family, friends, and the countless lives he touched will miss him dearly.

In honor of Michael's life, memorial contributions can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children or Wounded Warriors.
