Michael J. Smiley, 66, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2025, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

He was born on September 4, 1959, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of John and Ina (Evans) Smiley. Michael attended high school in Germantown, Tennessee and the Tennessee Rehabilitation Center in Smyrna, Tennessee. Michael moved to Muncie in 2004.

Michael was Mailroom Manager for his father's company, Smiley Advertising for twenty years.

Michael loved visiting Hawaii and Germany. He visited Berlin and saw the Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany. He enjoyed biking and was an impressive long-distance runner for many years.

Michael was a prolific painter of murals and cityscapes, and collected records of popular music, even memorizing Top 100 music charts. Michael had a tremendous number of friends.

Michael is survived by his sister, Dawn (Murray) Montague; nieces and nephews, Elisabeth Montague, Hannah (Erik) Houle, Peter (Jennifer) Montague and Ian Hanken.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Emily Marr.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, October 13, 2025, at St. Athanasius the Great Byzantine Catholic Church, 1117 Blaine Avenue, Indianapolis, IN.

Friends may call at St. Athanasius the Great Byzantine Catholic Church, from 10:00 am until service time at 11:00 am on Monday, October 13, 2025.

Burial will take place at Forest Hill Memorial Park East in Memphis, Tennessee.
