Micheal Alan Vandergrift, Sr., 78, passed away Friday, October 6, 2023 in Memphis, TN.

He leaves behind his wife, Paulette Vandergrift; one son, Micheal Vandergrift Jr. (Andrea); one daughter, Tanya Turner (Jonathan); one sister, Carolyn Burcham; one brother Lucian Daniel Jr.; eight grandchildren, Sophia, Lia, Jordan, Anjerica, Christian, Sydney, Faith, Jalen; and two great grandchildren, Zane and Paisley.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lucian Vandergrift Sr. and Geneva Bane Vandergrift; one sister, Edith Goad; and one brother, J.L. Bane.

Micheal was a longtime member of Bellevue Baptist Church and served on the Board of Directors for the Salvation Army. In his free time he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, coaching and playing baseball and helping others whenever he could. Micheal was a very caring, loving, selfless gentle giant who never complained about anything, even when fighting cancer for six years. He always put others first and was loyal, trustworthy and a very dignified man.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 13, 2023 from 5:00-7:00p.m. and Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 9:00-10:00a.m. at Forest Hill East Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 10:00a.m. Saturday, October 14, 2023. Burial will follow at Forest Hill East Cemetery. 2440 Whitten Rd., Memphis, TN 38133.
