Milburn Ernest Word III  August 14, 1957 – December 18, 2024

Milburn Ernest Word III, lovingly known as Ernie, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, at the age of 67. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, on August 14, 1957, Ernie was the beloved son of Jewel and Milburn Word Jr.

Ernie grew up with four brothers: Greg, Ricky, Larry, and Jeff. He is survived by Jeff, Larry, and Ricky and is reunited in peace with his parents, brother, and his beloved wife, Nia Word.

In his earlier years, Ernie was married to Rebecca Bailey, with whom he had his cherished daughter, Elizabeth Spencer. Although their marriage ended, they each played a significant role in raising Elizabeth, who became a source of immense pride and joy for Ernie.

He later found love again and married Nia Word, with whom he shared many wonderful years until her passing.

A devoted father, Ernie leaves behind his daughter, Elizabeth Spencer, her husband Joel Spencer, and two grandchildren, Hunter and Kaleb, who were the light of his life.

He also leaves behind a loving extended family, including his nieces and nephews: Grayce Kitts- Ransom &Tom Word, Lydia & Joshua Word, Lillian & Hayden Word all of whom held a special place in his heart.

Ernie was a talented musician who mastered several instruments, including the guitar, bass, and his favorite, the trumpet. His passion for music extended to playing in church and community bands, sharing his love for music with those around him.

He was a man of many passions—an avid sports fan who cheered on the Denver Broncos and the Memphis Tigers. His love for the outdoors drew him to the mountains of Colorado, where he dreamed of living, skiing, and biking. He also had a fondness for traveling, exploring new places and cuisines, with a particular love for Seafood, Mexican, and Southern food. Ernie especially enjoyed sipping piña coladas by the ocean.

In his early adulthood, Ernie served in the Air Force Reserves, where he exemplified his dedication to service. In 2016, he moved to Las Vegas to be closer to his family, creating cherished memories.

Ernie will be remembered for his quiet nature, deep love for his family, and the passions that shaped his life. His legacy of love, music, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
