Mildred M. Johnson, 91, of Memphis, TN, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, November 20th, 2024.

She was born in Desoto County, MS on June 28th, 1933 to Ira & Esther Murphy.

She retired from South Central Bell in 1990 after 25 years. Afterwards, she babysat her granddaughters, Laurie & Sara, and "adopted" grandsons, Paul & Connor, for 10 years.

She was a devout Christian who always started her day by reading her Bible. She was a lifelong churchgoer at Bellevue Baptist. She loved baking, reading, doing puzzles, sewing, crocheting, and painting rocks. She was happiest when she had all of her family together eating a meal she had prepared. She also enjoyed visits, calls, and letters with her friends and family.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her sons Sid Johnson (Becky) and Russell Johnson (Donna); her siblings Calvin Murphy (Joan), Jo Ann Gitter (William "Junior"), and Judy Laughter (George Waldrop); her sisters-in-law Clara Murphy and Eva Murphy; her granddaughters Laurie Porter (Alex) and Sara Rush (Jon); her great grandchildren David (11), Kaiden (9), Sarah (8), Melia (8), and Jade (8); and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is pre-deceased by her parents; her husband Lloyd S. Johnson of 62 years; and her siblings T.W. Murphy, James "Bo" Murphy, Sam Murphy, Lucille Dunlap, and Louise Allison.

Services will be held on Monday, November 25th at Forest Hill Funeral Home, 2440 Whitten Rd, Memphis, TN. Visitation will begin at 1 PM with the funeral to follow at 2 PM.
