Miriam Elizabeth "Mimsy" Townshend

Of Memphis, Tenn., died on April 6, 2024, at the age of 89.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Howard and Frances (Daniel) Townshend, sister Frances Ann (Townshend) Atwood (Richard), half siblings Virginia, Joseph Jr., Edward B., and Jerry Townshend, and her niece, Margaret (Atwood) Schuster.  She is survived by her niece, Miriam Elizabeth (Atwood) Massie (John), her nephew, Richard Edward Atwood (Susan), her dearest friend Sharon McCall, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Miriam was born in Memphis on March 6, 1935, where she grew up and attended Miss Hutchison School for Girls.  Miriam enjoyed sports, especially tennis as she ranked "Second in the South" in her youth. She attended Rhodes College and was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority.  She worked as a medical technician for Baptist Memorial Hospital, and she was an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels for many years. In her 89 years she enriched the many lives she touched and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16 at Second Presbyterian Church (4055 Poplar Ave., Memphis 38111) where Miriam was a member since 1951. Memorials preferred to Second Presbyterian World Missions and Second Presbyterian Mission Memphis (4055 Poplar Ave., Memphis 38111).
