Obituary

Nanelle Strohminger Caldwell, lovingly known as Nan or GiGi by friends and family, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2026 in Olive Branch, MS. Born on October 18, 1936 in Morgantown, MS, Nan’s life was characterized by a deep love for Jesus, family and friends.

After growing up in Morgantown, MS, alongside her older brother Charles “Bud” Gatlin Sr., Nan’s career was dedicated to her country serving in civilian roles for both the FBI and Air Force. Nan was married to Bruce Strohminger. They had two children, Gary and Cindy. Nan and family had countless adventures as the Air Force took them across the country from Alaska to Washington DC and numerous other locations in between.

Nan’s love for travel continued into retirement. She and Bruce completed countless camping trips in their motor home, often accompanied by her grandchildren. Nan also cherished time with her great grandchildren who lovingly knew her as their GiGi. Bruce passed away in March of 2016, and after a period of time, she was remarried to David “Dave” Caldwell. Nan and Dave shared a love for family and travel. Of all the locations, spending time on family land in Morgantown was a favorite.

Nan was preceded in death by her parents and older brother; her first husband, Bruce Strohminger; and her daughter, Cindy. She is survived by her second husband, David “Dave” Caldwell; her son, Gary; five grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. The love and kindness shown by Nan has shaped the lives of countless family and friends.

As we celebrate the life of Nan, we reflect on the impact of the love she has shared and rest assured that she is home with Jesus. She will be greatly missed and her memory cherished by all who knew her.
