Norma Jean
Hill Clark
Jun 7, 1928 — Jun 20, 2018
Humboldt
Mrs. Norma Jean Clark, 90, formerly of Memphis, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Humboldt, Tennessee. Norma Jean was married for 69 years to Rev. Luther A. Clark, Jr. who preceded her in death on December 18, 2017. They served faithfully together in churches throughout the Memphis Conference of the United Methodist Church. She was active in the local church, district and conference leadership of the United Methodist Women, serving as Memphis Conference president in 1991 and 1992. She led schools of mission, Lakeshore retreats and has deeply touched persons too numerous to mention. Norma Jean had a sweet spirit, best described in Romans 5:5: "Hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us." Her sweet gentle spirit captured the attention of those around her, especially noticeable with her care givers at Tennessee State Veterans Home and Morningside of Jackson. They often expressed their love for her and their appreciation that she never complained about anything and provided encouragement that would brighten their day even in her most difficult times.
Norma Jean's parents, Elton Richard Hill and Laura French Hill and her brothers, William R. Hill and Bobbie L. Hill, and daughter in-law, Lindsey Clark preceded her in death. She leaves her sister, Carol Elaine Williams; her four sons: Luther Allen Clark III (Sheila), Richard W. Clark (Susan), Paul B. Clark (Margaret) and Philip M. Clark (Rona); 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and many beloved nephews and nieces. The family requests that memorials be sent to Capleville United Methodist Church. A Service of Death and Resurrection will be celebrated at Capleville United Methodist Church, 4725 Riverdale Rd, Memphis, TN 38341 at 1:00 PM with visitation from 11:00 AM until 12:45 PM. Burial will be in Forest Hill South Cemetery.
