Odis Sanford Sanders, 85, of Oxford, MS passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at the Oxford Mississippi Veterans Retirement Home. Funeral services will be 12:00 Saturday at Sardis Lake Baptist Church, 24709 Highway 35, Sardis, MS 38666, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service. He was born on July 6, 1926, in Covington, TN. Odis was a World War II Navy Veteran. He fought as a Seabee in the South Pacific. He coached Little League for over 20 years and was known as "Uncle Odis" to all his players and friends. He was an officer with the Frayser Recreation Association and was inducted into the Memphis Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996. During his time as a baseball coach, he was a great influence on many youth in the Memphis and Shelby County area. Odis was a 32nd degree mason with the Frayser Lodge in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Marie and a daughter Cheryl Oscher. He leaves a daughter, Alice (Steven) Tillie, of Pope, MS; a son, Fred (Rhonda) Sanders, of Pope, MS; two brothers, Doug Sanders, and Junior Sanders; two sisters, Mable Parks, and Helen Brown; eleven grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
