Obituary

Pamela "Pam" McCarty, 57, entered into eternity at 3:40 p.m. on January 31, 2024 at Methodist North hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. At the time of her departure she was comforted by the presence of her loving husband, Vernon McCarty. Pam had experienced severe health issues for the last eleven years of her life including restricted mobility and chronic pain. Her passing was due to a culmination of her health problems. Though her surviving family mourns their loss they also rejoice in the hope that she is Home and well with her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Pam was born the fourth of five children to Roland and Rose Tiner on July 14, 1966 in Memphis, Tennessee. She graduated from Trezevant High School in 1984. On December 29, 1990 she married her husband of 33 years, Vernon, and they had four children. As a pastor's wife she served as First Lady at both Greenlaw Baptist Church and Longcrest Baptist Church. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother that was always willing to give up anything she had so that her loved ones wouldn't go without.

Pam was an avid reader. She was fun and loved to play jokes and pranks. She never took herself too seriously and just loved to have fun. She loved to wear bright, happy colors, especially yellow. But even though you could often spot her first in a crowd she did not enjoy being in the spotlight. Instead she thrived behind the scenes. She was very organized and creative and excelled at planning events. She preferred to do the thankless work that no one ever sees over the job that has everyone's attention. As a Pastor's wife she organized several VBS events, several women's events, and even a church carnival. She had a heart for children and every year that she was able she would organize and run a Samaritan's Purse Christmas Shoebox drive within her church.

Pam is survived by her husband Vernon of Memphis; her four children Noma (Kenneth) Hunter, Olivia McCarty, Samuel McCarty, and Lukas McCarty all of Memphis; her two grandchildren Anara Hunter and Jensen Hunter both of Memphis; her mother Rose Tiner of Memphis; her siblings Wayne (Lola) Tiner of Mississippi, Rhonda Jolley of Texas, Lisa Saigeon of Memphis, and Brian (Kim) Tiner of Memphis; her ten nieces and nephews; and many other loving family and friends that will miss her dearly.

There will be a graveside service for Pam at Elmwood Cemetery on February 20 at 11:00 a.m. Also a Celebration of Life is planned for March 2 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at The Lord's Chapel at Elmwood Cemetery. In honor of Pam's memory, the family requests that the visitors to the Celebration of Life wear their brightest, most colorful outfits. In lieu of flowers Pam requested that donations be made to the National Down Syndrome Society.
