Paul E. Mallory, 79, died at Methodist Hospital North on Sunday, July 15, 2012. Paul was born in Pontocola Community near Shannon, MS. The son of Charlton and Laurine Mallory, he was a graduate of Shannon High School, received a football scholarship from Bethel College, attended Itawamba Junior College where he played football, and attended The University of TN. He married Pauline on July 27, 1952 and would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this month. Paul served in the United States Army in the Chemical Intelligence Attachment during the Korean War and was honorably discharged from Fort McClellan in Alabama. Before his service to his country, he located to Memphis and worked for Orgill Brothers. After serving, he worked for The Dupont Company, The Atlas Construction Company and the Army Corps of Engineers, where he developed his love for construction. He established his own company, Dixieland Contractors, in 1957. In 1962, he obtained his TN Contractors License where he began long business endeavors with The City of Memphis, the TN Department of Transportation, the U.S. Naval Station in Millington, and many other mid-south cities. Paul served as President of the Associated General Contractors. He enjoyed keeping honey bees and was the past President of the Memphis Area and the Tennessee State Beekeepers Associations. He enjoyed attending bee conventions in various states and spoke to numerous children in classrooms using his honey bee observation hives. Paul was the father of four children: Rodney (Judith), Rita (Greg), Richard (Dawn) and Randy (Donna). He was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church, formerly Ardmore Baptist Church, where he attended faithfully and was an active deacon. Paul chaired numerous committees and was a Sunday School Teacher most of his adult life. Even at the time of his death, he was teaching the Adult 5 class. Paul and Pauline participated in many mission trips to Appalachian Outreach Ministry in Jefferson City, TN and other states. He was a beloved coach of numerous sports including football, baseball, softball and basketball and was the first head football coach of Frayser Baptist High School. Paul also coached at Corning Elementary, Ardmore Baptist Church, the Frayser Recreation Association, and the Memphis Travelers. He is survived by 10 grandchildren, Jesse (Meghann), Matthew (Susanne), Jordan (Lindy), Nic, Paul J., Ben, Forrest, Macy, Rivers, Lily, one great-grand daughter, Ella; two step-great-grandchildren, Ale and Mikey; one brother, Don (Linda); and sisters, Joyce (Charles) and Carol. Paul was preceded in death by Charlton and Laurine Mallory, young brother, Thomas Lynn Mallory and daughter, Rita Gayle Myers, whom he adored and with whom he is united. The family will receive visitors at Forest Hill East on Whitten Road Tuesday, July 17, from 6-8 p.m., with funeral services and burial on Wednesday, July 18, at 2 p.m., also at Forest Hill.
