Mar 16, 1918 — Mar 4, 2018
Paula Marie Storey Cantrell, 99, died on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the Memphis Jewish Home in Cordova, TN., a few days short of her 100 th birthday. She was a lifelong resident of Shelby County, born in Memphis on March 16, 1918 to the late Lloyd K. and Mary Storey, and preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank Raymond Cantrell. Marie is survived by her sister, Dorothy Ann Storey Wilson of Temple, TX, her son, Raymond Lloyd Cantrell of Alexandria, VA, granddaughter, Cassie Marie Cantrell Lofts of Huntsville, AL, grandson, Brooks Raymond Cantrell of McMurray, PA, great grandson David Christopher Lofts of Huntsville, AL, and many other family members and friends. Services will be announced later in the week, but will be entrusted to Forest Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park, East Chapel, with burial to follow at Memphis Memory Gardens.
Marie grew up on Princeton Ave. in the Highland Heights area of Memphis where she attended Treadwell Middle School, and later graduated from the Memphis Technical High School with honors at the age of 16, her goal to work and help the family then living in the Frayser area of Shelby County during the Great Depression. Marie's greatest passions in life centered about her love for God, family and friends, work and education. During the World War II era of the 1940's she worked to help schoolchildren at Frayser Elementry School, and as a technician in the rubber laboratory of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. where military tires were produced. Later, she gained employment in the office of Warner's Brickyard in Frayser, where a passion for accounting bloomed, and as an accountant with the American Snuff Company in Memphis. Marie later attended the University of Tennessee, Memphis, where she successfully completed every accounting and business law course with honors while employed long-term as office manager with the Sandidge Construction Company, a power and telephone firm in Memphis from which she retired.
Marie was a faithful Christian and biblical teacher of children and young adult career groups as a member of several Southern Baptist Churches in the local area including Ardmore Baptist Church, Frayser Baptist Church, and Bellevue Baptist Church where she had a standing membership. She loved God's natural wonders, especially that of plants and flowers, and enjoyed travel with family and friends to many parts of the world.
In Lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Mid America Theological Seminary, Mary Galloway Foundation or the Memphis Jewish Home
