Peggie Sue (Staten) Bennett of New Albany, MS, passed away on June 23, 2026 at Methodist LeBonheur Hospital in Olive Branch, MS surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 1, 1930 in New Albany to William H. and Mary Jewel (McBryde) Staten in Union County, MS. Peggie graduated from Center High School in New Albany and then Memphis School of Commerce in Memphis. She worked a combined thirty years in farming equipment with Minneapolis-Moline, Massey Ferguson and later at Holiday Inn in the drapery department all in Memphis, TN. Peggie was a former member of Cherokee Baptist Church in Memphis and after moving back home to New Albany she became a member of First Baptist Church in New Albany.

Grandmother always enjoyed being around her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She loved sewing, cooking, playing games, gardening and was the best spectator in the stands for us all in whatever we participated in such as cheerleading, football, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, tennis and dance.

Left to cherish her memories are her children Suzanne Douglas (David), James S. Bennett (Alicia), five grandchildren Adam Melton, Justin Bennett, Kylie Phillips (Dylan), Braxton Bennett, Lucas Bennett, two great-grandchildren Bryer Lee and James Tate Phillips, one brother Van Staten (Charlotte-deceased). She was preceded in death by her parents William H. and Mary Jewel (McBryde) Staten, husband James C. Bennett of 66 years and her brother Curtis Staten (Judy).
