Peggy Jones Davenport

Peggy Jones Davenport, 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 3, 2018, at Methodist Residence Hospice, after a long illness.  She was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on July 1, 1924, to parents Abbie Moore and Sandy Jones.

She graduated from Whitehaven High School in 1942 where she was a member of the Beta Club and served as Editor of the Broadcaster Student Newspaper her senior year.  There she met her future husband, Clifford W. Davenport, and they shared 54 years of marriage.  They had one daughter, Phyllis Lynn Davenport.

Her working career included numerous clerical positions, her last 35 years being a    Chiropractic Assistant for Dr. Audley C. Spellmann, DC PhC, of Memphis.  She was a    72-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, having served as Worthy Matron of    Normal Whitehaven Chapter No. 43 in 1955;  she served as Worthy Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of Tennessee in 1986.  She was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church in Germantown.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, Lester M. Jones, half-sisters and brothers, Inez Clark Griffith, Mary Elizabeth Jones, Alfred Ormsby Clark, Castle P. Jones, Effie Lura J. Barns, Doris C. Ramage, and Vera C. Lunsford.  She leaves her daughter, Lynn, a nephew, Jerry C. Lunsford, nieces Nancy R. McGavic, Dr. Lorraine A. Jones, Patricia M. Jones, Jerry W. Lunsford, Pam Beck, Jan Norton, and a host of other nieces and nephews.

All services will be at Forest Hill Baptist Church, 3645 Forest Hill Irene Road,          Germantown. The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 9, with visitation beginning at 1:00.  Additional  visitation will be Thursday, February 8, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Burial will follow the funeral service on Friday at Forest Hill Cemetery South, 2545 East Holmes Road, Memphis.
