Peggy Frances Queen Smith passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024. She was born September 30, 1942, to the late Egbert "Red" Queen and Dona Maxine Queen Wilson. Peggy was an exceptional student in school and would later attend the University of Mississippi Hattiesburg, where she received her bachelor's and master's degrees. Her majors where history and French, which she spoke fluently. Her love for learning would lead to a career in education where she worked at Desoto County schools for over 47 years.
Peggy's hobbies and interests included reading, gardening, cooking, sewing, sports, and especially baking. She made one of the best apple pies you would ever taste. She was also very active with her church, Gracewood Baptist, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Peggy loved her church and attended faithfully until her health prevented her from going.
Peggy was brilliant and highly intelligent. She raised two daughters on her own while going back to school and working. She was a great friend and a beautiful soul who never met a stranger. Peggy will be loved and truly missed by daughters, Amanda and Courtney; granddaughters, Grayce and Gabrielle; 2 great grands, Aiden and Autumn; sister and caregiver, Gayle Boyd. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Joseph "Joey" Queen.
