Peggy Johnson Terry passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her own bed. She was 95.
Peggy was born on August 19, 1930, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Howard Johnson and Helen Pruitt Johnson. An only child, she developed an early independence and lifelong curiosity that stayed with her throughout her life. She loved history, reading, and documentaries, and each morning began with her Wall Street Journal and a cup of coffee. Known for her sharp mind and thoughtful insight, Peggy was also a savvy and successful real estate investor. She especially loved playing bridge and continued to enjoy the game right up until her passing.
While attending Abilene Christian College, Peggy met the love of her life, Dr. H. D. Terry. They were married on February 17, 1951, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned decades. Dr. Terry became a prominent chiropractor in Memphis, Tennessee, where together they built a life centered on family, integrity, and hard work. Like Peggy, H. D. was an only child, and the two shared a close-knit family life grounded in deep loyalty and mutual respect.Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. H. D. Terry, and her son, H. David Terry.
She is survived by her daughter, Helen Truelson; her daughter-in-law, Debbie Burks Terry; five grandchildren, Erica, Rob, Mike, Helen, and Ashley; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Michial, Katherine, Scottie, Wyatt, Josephine, Hazel, Claire, David, Theo, Maddie, Lottie, Jane, and Jack.
A memorial visitation is pending due to weather at:
(Forest Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park East, 2440 Whitten Road, Memphis, Tennessee. A private family service will be held at a later date).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Peggy's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
