Southaven - Rachel Austin Thompson, 86, of Southaven, MS went to see her Savior on April 16th, 2014. She was born on September 25th, 1927 in Portland, TN to John Thomas and Nina Austin. She was a faithful member of Broadway Baptist for over 50 years, serving and helping in multiple ministries, such as GA''s, Sunday school and children''s church. She retired from Shelby County School system as a teacher''s aid for Special Ed classrooms. She was a loving mother to Larry and wife, Sherry Thompson of Raleigh, NC; Cheryl Wortham of Southaven, MS. Grandmother to Melissa and husband, Bryan Barnett of Huntington, WV; Valerie and husband, Steven Fair of Lakeland, TN. She is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harlon L. Thompson of 57 years, 3 brothers, 1 sister and her son Alan. Visitation will be Friday, April 18th 5 -7 p.m. Service will be Saturday, April 19th at 10 a.m. Both will be held at Forest Hill South Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be given to Broadway Baptist Church or Alzheimer''s Association.
