Ralph Thomas Purser, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and faithful servant of God, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026, in Southaven, Mississippi. He was 88 years old.

Born on July 6, 1937, in Batesville, Mississippi, Ralph was a son of the Deep South whose roots ran as deep as his faith. He answered his country's call, enlisting in the U.S. Army Europe Signal Corps, where he served honorably from 1956 to 1959, stationed in Germany. His service took him beyond the barracks — he was dispatched to France to install telephone lines for the U.S. Embassy during a NATO Conference, an assignment that placed him in the presence of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. It was the kind of quiet, essential service that defined Ralph — steady, skilled, and always where he was needed most.

Upon returning home, Ralph dedicated 27 years to his community as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, walking his route with quiet pride and a friendly word for everyone he met. In his own time, he found deep joy in woodworking — a gifted craftsman whose hands could shape something enduring and beautiful from simple wood, leaving behind heirlooms that will be treasured for generations.

Ralph found his Earthly and Eternal companion in his beloved wife, Faye, with whom he shared more than 66 years of faithful marriage. Together they raised four children — Alan (Jackie), Don (Tanya), William (Jodi), and Laura (Ricky) Hawkins — and were blessed to watch their family grow into a legacy of 20 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Faith was not simply something Ralph practiced — it was something he carried, generation to generation. His great-grandfather was the first member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Northern Mississippi, and Ralph honored that pioneering heritage with a lifetime of devoted membership and leadership. He served twice as Bishop — from 1970 to 1975, and again from 1979 to 1981 — shepherding his congregation with wisdom, humility, and grace. He and Faye faithfully served together in the Memphis, Tennessee Temple for 14 years, and he dedicated an additional 20 years as Financial Clerk in the Southaven Ward and Memphis Tennessee Stake. His life was a living testimony to the gospel he loved.
