Ray Lawrence Long of Bartlett, TN, was born on January 3, 1939, in Guntown, MS and passed away on January 24, 2016, at the age of 77 years. Ray was a graduate of Bartlett High School and a member of Bartlett Hills Baptist Church. He served as a deputy with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office for over 25 years. Ray loved fishing, tinkering with his antique cars, traveling to swap meets across the country, and spending time with his friends and family. He will be dearly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents Bolivar L. Long and Elsie Morris Long; his siblings Juanita Long, Bobby Roy Long, Bonnie Long Bishop, Charles Long and Joyce Long Wadley; and by one niece, Debbie Long. He is survived by his sister, Patricia Ann Long Kerley (James); nieces and nephews, Phil Kerley, Blake Kerley, George Long, Tim Long, Larry Long, Becky Brasher, Ronnie Bishop, Steve Bishop, Alan Wadley and Teresa Witt; and by his beloved dogs, Molly, Tia and Little Britches. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 27, from 5-7 p.m., and for an hour preceding the funeral service. The funeral services will begin on Thursday, January 28, at 10:00 a.m., all at Forest Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park East, 2440 Whitten Rd., Memphis. Interment will be held at Joel Cemetery, just outside of Dennis, MS.
