IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Reed
Barber
February 16, 1938 – January 15, 2026
M. Reed Barber, 87, of Rossville, Tennessee, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 15, 2026. A former resident of Hickory Withe and Memphis, Reed was a man of deep faith and tireless service to his community.
A devoted member of Rossville Baptist Church, Reed's life was rooted in his faith. He served as an ordained deacon and was a dedicated member of The Gideons International for many years.
A graduate of South Side High School in Memphis, Reed later attended Union University before beginning a life of service. He served as a Memphis Police Officer before working for Castle Fabrics, and eventually retired from G.E. Throughout his career, he remained active in civic life, including serving on the Fayette County School Board.
Born to George Wesley and Nettie Irene Barber in Bailey, Tennessee, on February 16, 1938, Reed was the last surviving sibling of eleven children. He was a loving husband to his wife, Barbara, for four years, and was preceded in death by his first wife of 43 years, Virginia "Ginger" Barber.
Family was the cornerstone of Reed's life. For over 30 years, he took great joy in hosting the family reunion at his home—a testament to his love for his vast extended family. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Johnny (Phyllis) of Cordova, TN; Dana Smith (Stuart) of Denver, NC; Chris of Iron Station, NC; and Teri Webb (David) of Munford, TN. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren, who affectionately knew him as "Poppy," thirteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He will be remembered for his steadfast love and devotion to his family and his frequent reminder to his loved ones to "stay sweet."
The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, January 19, 2026, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Forest Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park East, 2440 Whitten Rd, Memphis, Tennessee. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with burial to follow.
