IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Earl
Bushart
July 13, 1961 – April 15, 2025
Richard Earl Bushart went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the age of 63. Richard was the firstborn child of Earl and Dorothy "Dot" Bushart. He was born on July 13, 1961, in Memphis, Tennessee. He later welcomed to the world his younger sister Dottie. Richard graduated from Hernando High School in 1979 and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from the University of Memphis, where he remained an avid Tigers fan for life.
Richard met his wife Priscilla at Opportunity Camp where he was serving as co-director and she a counselor. They married June 29, 1991, and went on to have two sons, Nicholas Andrew Bushart and Jonathan Alexander Bushart (Margaret).
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Earl Bushart. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla, his children Nicholas and Jonathan (Margaret), his mother, Dorothy "Dot" Bushart, his sister, Dottie Smith (Harold), brothers-in-law, Barry Archer (Sherri) and Terry Archer. Nieces, Melissa Baumgartner (Chris), Caitlin Bowron (Will), Katie Silverfield (Ryan), and Maggie Van Landingham and Nephews- Sean Archer and Andrew Smith as well as two great nephew and six great nieces. He also leaves a friend as close as a brother Richard Bock.
Richard worked for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital for over 35 years. He was the manager of Data Center Operations. He believed in the mission of the hospital and counted it an honor to work there and with his co-workers/friends.
Richard loved sports his entire life whether playing or watching. It did not matter whether it was middle school or high school (White Station, Harding), college, or pro. He enjoyed them all. He was a life-long University of Memphis Tigers season ticket holder for football as well as basketball and an MVP season ticket holder for the Memphis Grizzlies. Going to games with family and friends brought him such joy.
To Richard, the most important part of his life was his relationship with Jesus Christ. Richard accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior when he was college aged. He was passionate for others to know of the saving power of Jesus Christ and for God to receive glory in all that he did. Richard loved the Lord with all his heart and found joy in serving Him. He was an active member of Kirby Woods Baptist church and served in a variety of capacities- Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Mission Committee's Chairperson, led First Light men's Bible study, Children's Church leader, led and went on several mission activities/trips locally, nationally, and internationally. Throughout the challenging days of his cancer battle, he used his medical testimony to point others to Christ and to witness of his faith in this life and the next.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 26, 2025, beginning at 11:30 am at Kirby Woods Baptist Church, 6325 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm. Graveside will be at Forest Hill East, 2440 Whitten Road, Memphis, TN, 38133.
