IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Burrell,
Jr.
May 3, 1959 – May 26, 2024
Richard Burrell, Jr. was born on May 3, 1959 in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee, to the late Richard Burrell and Sadie L. Whitaker-McCraney. Richard was the 7th of 9 children born to his mother, Sadie. He confessed his faith in Christ at an early age and was baptized under the leadership of the Late Rev. C. J Gaston. He was a member of St. Peter Baptist Church during his early years of life.
Richard schooling included Georgia Elementery and Geeter Schools, in the late Sixties and early seventies. After leaving school, he moved to Chicago to live with his now deceased sister, Jurlean Stewart (Marvin), and her family. He stayed there about five years. He worked in several restaurants duing his lifetime. Athough it was manual labor, he enjoyed his work. However, after leaving Chicago, his brother, Mark (Chitquet), came to Memphis and moved Richard to Danville, VA so that he could help care for Mark's young children while he worked.
Richard loved eating, cracking jokes, music, and teasing others whenever the opportunity avails. Also, he liked playing cards and he loved animals Richard was also a pretty good dancer (might I say his version of a particular dance). However, these interests are just a portion of things that made Richard the man, he was.
On May 26, 2024, after a short illness, Richard, transitioned from labor to rest in his Danville, Virginia appartment.
He leaves to cherish his memory one son, Richard Collins; one daughter, Nikita (Vandy) Collins; seven grandchildren, – DeMarcus, Brandon, Marco, Richard Jr. (RJ), Mia, Carmelo, and Terrence.
Also he leaves two brothers, – John Arnold (Manita); Jesse McCraney; three sisters – Stella Green; Lelia Nelson (Bennie); and Mary Brooks (Andre); a Very dear friend, Bernice Venable (of 18 years); several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins; and a host of friends.
Richard is gone; but he will not be forgotten.
