Obituary

Robert Harry Garner, of Nesbit, MS., died on February 13, 2018 at the age of 71.  He was a graduate of Whitehaven High School class of 1964, and was a veteran of the US Army, US Army Reserve, and the Mississippi State Guard (Rank: Sergeant 1 st Class). Mr. Garner leaves his wife, Charlotte J. Garner; a son, Robert Scott Garner, and his wife, Tina, and their two adult children: Hunter and Ashley Garner, and a son, Kevin Alan Garner, and his wife, M.J. (Emmy), and their four children: Shelby, Alan and Macy-Kate, and Laney Garner; and two great grandchildren; Gage Garner and Faith Garner. Harry was the son of (the late) Ray and Sue Garner, and is survived by one sister, Dolores Elliott of Nesbit; two brothers: Milton Garner of Horn Lake, MS, and Curtis Garner of Nesbit, MS., and a host of nieces, nephews, and great nephews. Mr. Garner owned and operated Garner Dental Laboratory from 1979 until 2005. Harry also served, for a time, as a substitute teacher at Oak Grove Elementary School in Hernando, MS.  In 2005, Harry began working for the Desoto County Schools Department of Transportation as the Safety/Training Supervisor, and retired in 2009. Harry was an active member of Gracewood Baptist Church in Southaven, MS; where he sang in the sanctuary choir and served as a deacon.  He also served for many years as 3 rd /4 th /5 th grade Sunday School teacher, which, he often said was the most rewarding and enriching office he ever held in the Church. The family visitation will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2018 from 12:30-2:00 pm at Gracewood Baptist Church in Southaven, MS. with funeral services conducted immediately afterward at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at Forest Hill South Cemetery in Memphis, TN. Mr. Garner requested that, in lieu of flowers, any memorials be given to the Children's Fund of Gracewood Baptist Church 8551 Getwell Rd. Southaven, MS 38672.
