Robert Brewer Mabray, 89 years of age, sailed into port Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. He was in the company of family. He was born in Carrollton, MS to Brewer and Nannie Lou Mabray, moved to Southeast AR where he went to school. He joined the Navy in November of 1942 and served on Destroy Escort USS Duffy for two years in the Pacific. He achieved the rank of Signalman 3 Class and received an honorable discharge. He returned home in January of 1946 and soon married Cassie Juanita Kellum and settled in Memphis. He worked at Gould National Battery and had a son, Robert Jr. (Bobby). He joined the National Guard in December, 1949 at the onset of the Korean War, "so Bobby won''t have to go". He served with the 196th FA BN and received two Bronze Stars during his service. He was Honorably Discharged in December of 1952, returned home and had two more sons; James Walter and Hal Derwin. "Bob" was a retired Teamster from Emery Worldwide. He is a member of Gracewood Baptist Church, member of Masonic Order, Bethel Grove Lodge No. 745, F&AM, and life member of VFW Post 684. He was preceded in death by Robert Jr. who served in the Vietnam War and received the Bronze Star. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Juanita, and sons James and Hal (Cathy); five grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. He was dearly loved and will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Gracewood Baptist Church or charity of choice. Funeral services are Thursday November 29 at Forest Hill Funeral Home South, 2545 E Holmes Rd. Viewing will be at 10 a.m. with services following at noon. Interment will be 2 p.m. at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on Forest Hill Irene Rd.
