Roland D. "Pat" Partain, 82, of Lakeland, TN, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 17, 1943, to Robert D. and Esther Ellen Wear Partain. Known to friends and family as "Pat," he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who lived a life marked by service, dedication, and a deep love for his family.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Pat enlisted in 1961 and served his country with honor for over two decades, retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1982 after a distinguished career in law enforcement. As Superintendent of Law Enforcement, Pat was responsible for overseeing all law enforcement operations at military installations, including the security of nuclear-armed aircraft, Titan Il missiles, and ground movement operations. His commitment to his work earned him numerous honors, including the USAF Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, among others.
After retiring from the Air Force, Pat continued to serve his community as a commercial driver from 1983 to 2018. His dedication to his family and work was unwavering, and he was known for his reliability, strong work ethic, and steadfast support for those he loved.
Pat shared 56 wonderful years of marriage with Sandra K. Partain, a partnership built on love, respect, and mutual care. Together, they raised two children, Ronny Partain and Carolyn Canfield (married to Kyle Canfield), and were blessed with three grandchildren: Kathryn Isabelle Partain, Ryder D. Partain, and Savannah K. Partain. Pat was a proud and doting grandfather who cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, imparting wisdom and love with every story he told.
Pat was a devout Christian and had strong affiliations with the Church of Christ. His faith was a guiding force in his life, and he lived his beliefs through kindness, generosity, and a deep commitment to his family and community.
Pat is survived by his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, and his sister, Julia Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert D. and Esther Ellen Wear Partain.
Pat's education included a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Southern Illinois University, an Associate's degree in Education from Georgia Military College, and an Associate's degree in Police Science from the USAF Community College. His thirst for knowledge and passion for learning remained a constant throughout his life.
He was a man of integrity, strength, and deep faith. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
