Obituary

Ronald Mark Smith, age 69 of Ladson, SC, passed away in Charlotte, NC on September 9, 2018. After serving in the 82 nd Airborne division of the U.S. Army until 1971, he worked for 10 years at International Harvester in Memphis, TN and then spent the rest of his life in construction. He retired in 2012 as Construction Superintendent from the Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Defense Test Site on the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands. He was an active Christian, a member of Mile Road Baptist Church in Ladson, a Master Mason with the Oak Grove Lodge #293 in Olive Branch, MS, an avid diver, a lifelong carpenter, and a beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather. His wife of 41 years, Patricia Campbell Smith, preceded him in death. Survivors include sons Ronald Todd Smith (Kristie) and Mark Hugh Smith (Oliver), grandsons Jacob Ronald Smith and Benjamin David Smith, and brother James Hugh Smith. He was also preceded in death by his father, William Hugh Smith, and mother, Vera Carter Smith. Visitation will be on Friday, September 14, 2018, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Forest Hill East Funeral Home at 2440 Whitten Road in Memphis. Funeral service and burial will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at the same location. Memorial contributions are welcome at the American Lung Association website in memory of Ronald Mark Smith of Ladson, SC.
