Obituary

ROY ALVIS MAXEY, 79, died Sunday at his home after a long illness. He had struggled to overcome complications from heart valve replacement surgery nearly two years ago and persevered despite his physical limitations coupled with grief over losing the love of his life and wife of 58 years, Mary Estelle Maxey, in December 2012. Ultimately, he grew too tired to fight any longer and died peacefully in the home he never wanted to surrender. A retired wholesale food distributor for Patrick Siano Foods, Roy hopped on a bus and moved to Memphis from Myrtle, MS, to find work after graduating from high school in 1952. It was in Memphis a few years later that he met his future wife on a blind date, and they were married on New Year's Eve 1955. He leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Gabrielle Maxey; a granddaughter, Mallory Maxey, and a grandson, Michael Maxey, all of Germantown. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Hill Funeral Home East with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Forest Hill East Cemetery.
