Roy Lee Thomas, age 78, went to be with the Lord on October 24, 2020.
Roy was born on November 13, 1941, in Belzoni, Mississippi, to the late Woodrow and Edith Beckwith Thomas. He was a member of Bartlett Baptist Church in Bartlett, Tennessee.
Roy served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Hoel during the Vietnam War. He was a policeman in Belzoni, Mississippi, and Yazoo City, Mississippi. He left the Yazoo City Police Department to attend college. After graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi he worked at the penitentiary in Parchman, Mississippi, before joining the City of Memphis Police Department where he retired as a captain after 33 years. Roy consulted and trained officers in other police departments concerning crime scene technology.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Louise Hendrix Thomas of Bartlett, Tennessee, and a daughter, Tracey Thomas Mewborn and her husband Jared Mewborn, and two granddaughters, Madison Elizabeth Mewborn and Hailey Grace Mewborn, all of Germantown, Tennessee. He is also survived by three sisters: Sue Sudduth (Jack) of Tipton County, Tennessee, and Gladys Baker and Edna Thomas of Vilonia, Arkansas.
The visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28 at Forest Hill East, 2440 Whitten Road, Memphis, TN 38133 with the service to follow at 10:00 a.m.
