Following a long illness, Charlene "Charlie" Cowan passed away December 12, 2017. Charlene and her surviving husband, Hugh Cowan, lived in Bartlett, TN and are members of Bartlett Hills Baptist Church. Mrs. Cowan retired from Bell South in Nashville, TN where she was a manager and a Tennessee Life Member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. During her retirement years Mrs. Cowan served as a volunteer "Pink Lady" at Methodist North Hospital and activities at church. Mrs. Cowan is survived by her husband of 28 years, Hugh Cowan, of Bartlett, TN; son, Wayne Porter and wife Kathy of Knoxville, TN; son, Billy Porter of Nashville, TN; stepson, Mike Cowan and wife Carol of Southaven, MS; stepdaughter, Beth Owen and husband Bernis of Gallaway, TN; 7 grandchildren, Courtney Watkins and husband, Paul; Wesley Porter, Stacy Harvey and husband T.J.; Matthew Owen, Jessica Owen, Tanner Cowan, Matt Cruze and wife Sebrina; 6 great-grandchildren, Gage Walton; Kierston Harvey; Luke Spath; Kyler Harvey; Addison Watkins; and Kynlee Cruze. Mrs. Cowan was preceded in death by her stepson, Fred Cowan of Arlington, TN; a sister, Mary Hollis; and brother, Ansel Travis. Forest Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park, East Chapel, 2440 Whitten Road, Memphis, TN, 38133 will be handling the funeral services and burial. Services will be held Friday, December 15, 2017 with visitation from 12:00 - 2:00 PM with funeral services at 2:00 PM.
