Ruth Erwin Hayes passed away on February, 27, 2013, in Chattanooga, TN. Born in Troy, TN, on March 11, 1920, Mrs. Hayes was a long-time resident of Memphis. She taught in the MCS for many years, mostly at Georgian Hills Elementary. She was a former member of Frayser Baptist Church and later Bellevue Baptist. Mrs. Hayes leaves her husband of 71 years, John Howard Hayes; sons, John H. Hayes, Jr. of Chattanooga, and James Hayes (Sandra), Jonesborough, TN; daughter Ruth A. Ballard (Jim) of Chattanooga; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Services will be at Forest-Hill East, Saturday, March 9, at 2 p.m. with visitation at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of the giver''s choice.
