Obituary

Sam Berry Blair passed away on February 25, 2012 at the age of 85. Born in Memphis, he was the youngest of five children born to his mother, Sam Berry Blair and father, Edward Russell Blair. He attended Central High School, enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II, and served in the South Pacific. A graduate of what is now Rhodes College, he worked for International Harvester before founding his real estate company, Sam Blair Co., Inc. His wife Nancy survives him, as does his brother John Alan Blair of Harper, Texas, his younger sister Betty Blair (Mays) Smith of Los Angeles, California, and his three children - Becky Lloyd (Larry,) Teri Blair and Sam Berry Blair Jr (Pam). His grandchildren are Leah Lloyd Hillis (Josh,) Lydia Lloyd Berryman (Brian), Charis Lloyd Ellington (Doug,) Hannah Lloyd, Blair Jacobs (Allison,) and Lauren White. His brothers Edward Russell Blair, Jr. and Berry Blair predeceased him. Many nieces and nephews as well as four great-grandchildren survive him; another great-grandchild is on the way. Sam Blair, a charter member of the Million Dollar Sales Club of the Memphis Realtors, sold commercial, industrial, and agricultural properties in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi. His recognizable classic white signs with green, red, and black lettering were his mark in the Mid-South during his 40-year real estate career. Sam Blair's affable personality contributed to his sales success and many friendships. He never met a stranger and was an engaging character. Instead of a funeral and burial service, his family will honor him with a celebration of his life later. The family suggests St. John's Methodist Church or Rhodes College to those who wish to honor Sam Berry Blair with a memorial.
