SAMMIE EMMONS CURTIS was born on February 12, 1928 in Mexico, Missouri to Ruby Hart and Samuel Emmons. Sammie was the youngest of four daughters. She was married to Claude A. Curtis, Jr., for 45 years, who died at 71 years of age in 1992. Sammie and Claude had four daughters, Claudia Sadrack (John) of Suwanee, GA, Mary Douglass (Charles) of Collierville, TN, Nancy Thomas (Don) of Collierville, TN and Linda Park (Kenneth) of Bartlett, TN. She was the grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of three (with a fourth expected in August 2013). At the time of her death on March 14, 2013, Mrs. Curtis was a resident of Ave Maria Assisted Living in Bartlett, TN. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, she was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church. Mrs. Curtis actively supported the Memphis Union Mission. As an enthusiastic supporter of the arts, she supported Opera Memphis and the Metropolitan Opera. Early in marriage, she worked as a secretary of the FBI. Visitation for Mrs. Curtis will be 1 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2013, followed by funeral service at 2 p.m. Visitation and funeral will be held at Forest Hill Funeral Home, 2545 E. Holmes Rd., Memphis, TN. Memorials may be made to Memphis Union Mission, 600 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN.
