Obituary

Sara Frances Jenkins lived an amazingly full 97 years. She was born in the Mississippi Delta to a family that farmed and they made a meager living from the land. She would carry this love for the land into her adulthood where she became a prolific gardener. Many family meals were prepared with food that she so lovingly created and cared for with her own hands. The land served her and those around her for decades where she was instrumental in establishing community garden plots for people that didn't have access to land of their own. In creating this program, she helped many families thrive off the land she loved so much. When she wasn't in her garden or spending time with her beloved son and daughter-in-law, she was traveling, visiting with neighbors, attending church or spending porch time with her kitties. She loved arts and crafts, sewing, and ceramics almost as much as she loved the dirt. She managed a busy life, raising her son, all while working as a switchboard operator for the telephone company where she was a valued employee for over thirty years.
Sara Frances Jenkins is survived by her daughter-in-law Jessie Jenkins, sister Ester Moore Rockwell,
and many nieces and nephews. She will be reunited with her son Eddie Jenkins, her daughter Jeanie
Carol and her Brothers Bobby Lee Moore, Jack Griffith, and Sister Margaret Moore Raitt.
