Hernando-Sara L. Whitman, 84, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, October 13, 2012. She was born in Big Creek, MS. Mrs. Whitman retired from Whitehaven High School and from Cosmetology. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Albert Newman Thompson and John McKinnon; her parents, Lewis C.and Myrtie Mae Covington; two brothers, L.C. and Vaiden Covington; one sister, Thelma Edwards; one daughter-in-law, Darlene Thompson and son in-law Rick Thompson. She leaves her husband, B.J. Whitman; three children: Barbara Turner Thompson, Bobby Thompson (Susan) and Jimmy Thompson (Debbie); one sister, Betty Clements and two brothers, James and Elmer Ray Covington (Eva); 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Sara made the world a better place with her warm and loving personality and she will be greatly missed. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, October 15 at Forest Hill South, with service Tuesday at 2 p.m.
