Obituary

Shirley Brooks Floyd, age 90, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 10, 2026, in Cookeville, TN.

She was born on January 16, 1936, in Poplar Creek, MS, to Robert Lee Gregg and Vesta Beatrice Franks Gregg. Shirley grew up in a large family with ten children. She was preceded in death by her parents, her nine siblings, and her husbands, Dr. John Floyd, Alvin Kimes, and Jimmy Brooks, each of whom shared seasons of her life.

She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory, including her children, Janice Leilani Farish (Jackson, MS), Jimmy Lynn Brooks (Houston, TX), and Rosanne Cooper (Cookeville, TN). She has four grandchildren, Michael Blair Farish, Allyson Ann Brooks, Brittany Brooke Cooper, and Hunter Brooks Cooper; and five great-grandchildren, Michael Landon Farish, Melody Grace Farish, Henry Cooper Chapin, Hudson Lee Chapin, Lincoln Brooks Cooper, as well as another on the way.

Shirley faithfully served for 25 years as office manager of the Robinson Clinic in Indianola, MS, before her retirement. Her life was centered around her Christian faith. She served as the Ladies' Sunday School teacher and the Wednesday night Youth Group teacher for many years. She and her husband were devoted members of Baptist church communities throughout their lives, and most recently worshiped at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Germantown, TN.

Shirley enjoyed her flower garden, quiet mornings devoted to prayer, and sharing laughter around a table of dominoes with family and friends. She will be remembered for her faith, kindness, and the love she gave so freely to those around her.

Funeral and Visitation services will be at Forest Hill East Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Friday, March 27th, between 5 and 7 pm. The memorial service will be on Saturday, March 28th, at 10 am. Interment to follow the service at Memorial Park East Cemetery.
