Shirley June Smith Koss 1933-2024 Celebration of Life

Mrs. Shirley June Smith Koss, 91, passed away peacefully at home on August 6, 2024.She was born June 20, 1933, to the late Edwin H. Smith and Allie Barentine Smith of Memphis, Tn.

Shirley, a proud graduate of Treadwell High School, 1951, of Memphis, Tn, was a secretary and homemaker dedicating herself to family and friends.

She was a passionate wildlife enthusiast. Many of her hobbies included photography, painting, travel and volunteer work.

In her later years, Shirley was very active with the Memphis Zoological Society Docent and Volunteer programs at the Memphis Zoo. Receiving several awards for her dedication to wildlife and promoting education to the zoo's visitors. Many of her favorites included Grizzly, Polar, Giant Panda, Black bears species, the Great Ape, Pachyderm and related areas. She was a great friend to zookeepers and other employees and often provided knowledge and behavioral observations.

Shirley leaves behind many friends who cherish wonderful memories. She was always smiling and laughing, even in the most difficult times.
She was truly loved and will be missed by all.

Shirley has been laid to rest at Forest Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park Midtown, alongside her beloved husband Frank W. Koss.

Her wishes were that any memorials or contributions be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Inc., of Memphis Tennessee.
