Shirley Jean Smiley Potts, age 77, was born on February 26, 1940 and went to be with her Heavenly Father on August 26, 2017. She was a beautiful, generous mother and grandmother and leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness.

Shirley was preceded in death by husbands, J. Harold Smiley and F.W. "Sonny" Potts. She is survived by 5 children: Dorothy Colleen Baker (husband, Johnny L. Baker, Sr., deceased), Julian H. "Pete" Smiley Jr., John Murray Smiley (June), Shannon Morris Smiley, and Thomas Gene Smiley. Stepchildren: Josephine Smiley Todd (Richard), Julia Smiley Brown (Danny), Edward Leon Smiley, deceased (Sherry), Randy Potts (Pam), and Jackie Potts Knight.

Surviving siblings: Nancy McCollum Hawkins (Jimmy), Ellis "Buddy" McCollum (Teresa), Sharon McCollum Phillips (Freeman). Deceased siblings: Dorothy McCollum Brooks, Clarence McCollum, Curtis McCollum, Ruth McCollum Baker, Ben McCollum, Mary Ann McCollum, Gary McCollum, and Sandra McCollum Perkins.

Grandchildren: Johnny L. Baker Jr., Jeremy W. Baker, Destiny Baker Cornelius, Jennifer Baker Treadway, Julian E. Smiley, Josie D. Smiley, Leah N. Smiley, Julia C. Smiley, Leslie J. Smiley, Adam Smiley, Alisa Dowdy, Heather Wardlaw Lintz, Reed Warren, Jeremiah Smiley, Shawn Allen, Michelle Allen Keel, Destin Todd, Jacelyn Todd Brooks, Dan Brown, deceased, Christy Brown Byford, Dennis Brown, Melanie Brown McGregory, Matt Smiley, Paige Smiley Street, Apryl Clanton, Fran Hardy, Scotty Dabbs, Daniel Dabbs, Justin Harris, and Brandi Potts. She also leaves behind 44 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday, August 31 at Forest Hill Funeral Home South, 2545 E. Holmes Rd., Memphis, TN 38118. Viewing at 9 AM and Funeral at 10 AM.
